Anyone can block with a shield... that's just a matter of putting the solid piece of wood and steel strapped to your arm into harm's way. However, one of the basic tactics a Squire learns beside how to cover their allies is how to use that same shield to strike their opponents to stun and buy them space. Sometimes using the shield instead of a sword is a better overall solution. A bloody nose and broken pride is sometimes preferable to adding another corpse to the battlefield.

System: A squire may attack with their shield with a check of Strength+Melee+Shield Bash, defended as normal, and if successful will inflict their base PATK + their shield's PDEF. Additionally there is a chance to knockdown or inflict [Stun] on their target. In either case the Rating + original roll equals the percentage that the victim must defend against with two +roll 1d100 checks (declare which your defending against before rolling). Knockdown will only last 1 round while [Stun] status will last 1 + Rank/8 rounds. Additional Shield Bashes will not increase the length of the [Stun] status.
